Clarence “CL” Werner, founder of Werner Enterprises, Inc., was born on a farm in Petersburg, Nebraska in 1937. His family didn’t have much, but their legacy of giving was deeply rooted. “I’ve learned that being wealthy doesn’t mean a thing unless I use my money to help people. That’s how I am. It came directly from my folks, and they got it from their folks. It’s my nature. I grew up believing generosity is normal. My parents didn’t have much money, but they always gave as much as they could.” Through the CL Werner Foundation that generosity continues. Since it’s formation in 2008 the Foundation has given millions of dollars in gifts and grants to local and national charities, as well as global impact organizations. The Foundation especially focuses on CL and Rachel’s vision of helping those who suffer from adversity, want to pull themselves up by their bootstraps, and realize their potential.
